Oddly there is a James Philbrow Rands bapt in Portsea 30 Jan 1816, parents James and Rachel. But person in 1871 below born in Wellingborough. Perhaps mothers family came from Portsea?

1851 Census; Living as head (age 35) at 48 Luceen(??) St., Portsea, Hants with wife 2 sons and a dau. Occupation; Shoe Maker.

1861 Census; Living as widower and head (age 44) at East Street, Chichester, Sussex with 3 dau, son and a servant (a female 'operator'). Occupation; Bootmaker.

1871 Census; Living as widower and head (age 54) at 2 Omega St, Portsea, Landport, Hants (shared with another family; 2 heads) with married dau, daughter and granddau. Occupation; Journeyman plumber.

1881 Census; He MIGHT be the James Rands 65 born either Wellingborough or Irthlingborough living in Thames Ditton, Surrey with a 59 yo Mary Rands. No occupation given although, oddly, the person next door is a Bootmaker.

James married Martha. (Martha was born in 1813 in Northamptonshire.)
