1881 Census (age 68) widower living at The Rocklands, College Road, Dulwich, Camberwell, London with 7 children, 1 visitor and 4 servants. Occupation; South American Merchant. Birthplace is Russia or Prussia. Then says 'BS' (British Subject presumably). On here says all children born in Lewisham.


Name correction (I had Frederick from census) from Anthony Bateman who also says "had his S American business in Basinghall Street near the Guildhall library. The birthplace of him and/or his wife (Ackerman) was Dusseldorf, Rhineland, and not Prussia. Mona and her brother, Prof Ernst Schwartz (Westminster School & Camborne), were both born in England I believe. There are many refs to Ernst in English newspapers and he is in the 'Who's Who of SA'. My father used to go to an uncle in Streatham for a proper German Xmas as a child. He was fluent in German and won prizes for German at school, but I heard him speak it only once"
