1881 Census (age 26) incorrectly indexed on ancestry as 'Bakman'. Living with widowed mother, 5 sisters and 1 visitor (Edward Bayess?, 28, Physcian) and 4 servants at 13 Canonbury Lane, Islington. Unmarried.
Wedding cert; 12 Feb 1882. St Michael's Wood Green. Hypatia Florence Bateman (age 27) spinster/ Alfred Tree (48) widower. His profession: Actor. His father's (Thomas) occ: Dealer in Leather. Witnesses completely unrelated names, not a Bateman in sight. As the Batemans seem to spent a large amount of time being witnesses at weddings looks as though they might have given Hypatia and her groom the cold shoulder or perhaps they didn't know about the wedding ?
