1861 Census (age 4) living in Collingtree (house name not given but next to The Rectory), Northants with parents, 4 siblings, a visitor (see under father), a governess and 3 other servants. Occupation; Scholar.

1872 Census (age 14) Is a boarder at The Hall, Withersfield, Suffolk. This appears to be a farm, but farmers wife and daughter are teaching 9 people - but most of them (6) are his children and a niece !
